What are the nominee’s experiences?
Currently, Denise has been involved with PSDAA as Executive Vice President from 2018 to present, PSD2020 Alumni Reunion weekend, Lehigh Association of the Deaf, Lehigh Valley Deaf Connection as a team leader, Co-founder of Lehigh Valley Task Force Group for Deaf children, Pennsylvania Society Advancement of the Deaf (PSAD) as a former board member. She also had involved in the Leadership Training program for PSAD, and her church, Connecting Deaf Fellowship.
What are the nominee’s activities in the deaf community?
Denise has been involved in all the fundraising activities that PSDAA and PSD2020 hosted. Also, she hosted two major events that raised money for PSD2020 Alumni Reunion at her house and the local community center in Lehigh Valley. With other co-hosts from PSDAA, she assisted with the Leap Year fundraising events.
What does the nominee volunteer in the deaf community?
Denise has been a great volunteer with a lot of local events — she hosted IronPig baseball games (minor league) in Lehigh Valley for the past five years. She tutors some ASL students in becoming interpreters in the past 10 years. She has volunteered in assisting events for families of infants, toddlers and children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in the area of Lehigh Valley.
What are the nominee’s goals to improve PSDAA?
I believe that Denise will improve the current technology for PSDAA meetings via Zoom, Group VP and other ways. Also she hopes to improve the PSDAA website so that PSD Alumni Members can benefit more; updating the email distribution and recruitment for new members to join PSDAA. She mentions that she would like to set up the strong foundation of PSD student scholarship and/or PSD programs that need Alumni Support such as ASL, Deaf Culture, Early Childhood and many more. She is a very innovative and creative person who will make PSDAA successful during COVID-19 pandemic and in the future.
